25 years ago, on November 27, 1997, Fr. Robertus Sutopo, SCJ, together with six companions was ordained, a priest by Mgr. Aluisius Sudarso, SCJ, in Palembang, Indonesia.
Commemorating this very important for him anniversary Fr. Robertus has offered a special Thanksgiving Mass that was held at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish, #16 Gabriela Silang Street, Tierra Verde Homes Subdivision in Quezon City, Diocese of Novaliches.
Here below is his short reflection on the 25 years of his Journey as a Dehonian Priest, entitled “This priesthood belongs to Him.”
“After receiving the priestly ordination from Mgr. Aluisius Sudarso, SCJ 25 years ago, I lived my life as a DEHONIAN priest in Indonesia and then in the Philippine mission until today (November 2022). During that period, I was more involved (90%) in the pastoral care of the Church – as a parish priest and associate pastor. Then, two years ago until now, I have been assigned to help in a formation house community in Manila.
What are the interesting experiences you have had during your Priesthood calling so far? My answer: “His continuous presence”. In the early days of my priesthood, I felt capable. I can do it myself! But as time went on I experienced ups and downs. Until I came to the realization that everything, I experienced was part of His inclusion. I have felt tired and fallen; feel inadequate. It was at that time that I felt His inclusion through so many people (community/congregation, family, friends).
St. Paul’s words, which were lived by Fr. Dehon and became the spirituality of the Dehonians, have also become my guide in life to always try to live it to the end. “I live, but it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I live now in the flesh is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Gal 2:20)
This priesthood is His. From Him and for Him who has called me and accompanied me to live it. Then only one word for all of this: GRATITUDE!”
CONGRATULATIONS FR. ROBERTUS!
