SCJ Philippines Regional Assembly 2023

“Availability and Generosity to God, to the Congregation, and to the People” was the theme of the SCJ Philippines Regional Assembly 2023, held at the Sacred Heart Formation House in Cagayan de Oro City from February 27 to March 3, 2023. It began with a reflection on the theme led by Fr. Rechie C. Gier, SCJ, followed by a sharing in groups, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, personal confession, and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided by Fr. Candido S. Bayron, SCJ.

On the second day (February 28, 2023), after the recapitulation of the previous day and sharing in the groups, each community and commission presented its report of accomplishments and challenges from the year 2022. The day concluded with the Holy Mass presided by Fr. Joel Bolo, SCJ, from Dumalinao Parish, followed by supper and common recreation.

On the third day, the assembly discussed various topics concerning the SCJ Philippine Region and its future activities. The Holy Mass was held at the Immaculate Concepcion Parish and was presided by Fr. Robertus Sutopo, SCJ, from the Manila Community.

On March 2, 2023, the Eucharist was celebrated in the morning and was presided over by Fr. Julius Socorro, SCJ, who on this day celebrated his second anniversary of ordination to the priesthood. After breakfast, the whole group moved to Duka Bay in Medina, which is approximately two hours away from Cagayan de Oro City, where they enjoyed nature and some rest.

The assembly that ended on March 3, 2023, was attended by 39 SCJs, including eight seminarians on exposure PHI (4) and four on VIE (4).

Overall, it was a successful gathering of the SCJ community in the Philippines, focused on strengthening their mission of serving God and the people. At the same time, it further strengthened their bonds of fraternity and community. May the SCJ Philippines Region continue to grow and serve God, the Congregation, and the People with open hearts and minds.
