“I am because we are” – A Spirit of Unity Marks First SCJ Regional Meeting

The first regional meeting under the new administration took place at the Sacred Heart Formation House in Cagayan de Oro City on April 16-17, 2024.

The meeting commenced with a thought-provoking reflection led by Fr. Antonio Roberto de Gala Sian, SJ, titled “I am because we are.” This exploration of the African philosophy of Ubuntu emphasized the interconnectedness of humanity and the significance of community in shaping our identities. This powerful message set the stage for the entire meeting, underscoring the importance of unity and solidarity within the group.

Following the reflection, the members engaged in personal reflection, confession, and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

In the afternoon, the assembly divided into geographical areas to share their reflections about the topic of the reflection in the context of community life. This interactive session enabled the members to exchange ideas, experiences, and insights, fostering a sense of fellowship and mutual understanding among the participants.

The second day of the meeting was dedicated to the business matters, starting with a prayer and video messages from Fr. Vincent Sri Herimanto, SCJ, (General Councilor in Rome), and Fr. Carlos Luis Suárez Codorniú, SCJ (General Superior).

Each member then had the opportunity to share about their physical and spiritual well-being, opening up a space for vulnerability and support within the community. This personal sharing allowed the members to connect on a deeper level and provided a sense of solidarity and empathy among the group.

Overall, the first regional meeting was a successful and enriching experience for the whole community. It reaffirmed the importance of unity, collaboration, and faith within the group, laying a strong foundation for future growth and development under the new leadership.
