Kasanag Daughters Foundation, Inc. Celebrates 25th Founding Anniversary

On May 18, 2024, the Kasanag Daughters Foundation, Inc. (KDFI), the flagship social project of the Priests of the Sacred Heart – Philippine Region in Cagayan de Oro City, marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 25th Founding Anniversary. The event was filled with joy, gratitude, and a sense of accomplishment as the foundation reflected upon its journey of providing shelter and rehabilitation opportunities to victims of sexual abuse.

The celebration commenced with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Father Raul Ricacho, SSJV, formator at San Jose Seminary and Vicar for Clergy in the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro. This was followed by a heartwarming program prepared by the girls themselves, showcasing their talents and resilience. The festivities culminated in a fellowship dinner where everyone came together in a spirit of community and support.

Adding a special touch to the occasion were three visitors from Poland who not only graced the event but also generously contributed to the foundation’s mission. Notably, they helped renovate the living spaces for the girls before the celebration.

Established in 1999 by Fr. Eduardo Aguero, SCJ, Kasanag Daughters Foundation has provided a safe haven for over 200 girls aged 8 to 16. Currently, the foundation cares for 12 girls, offering them not just shelter but also the tools they need to heal, learn, and grow.

Kasanag Daughters Foundation operates under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and maintains the highest standards of care. The dedicated staff, including house-mothers, psychologists, social workers, and a project manager, work tirelessly to empower the girls. The foundation’s Board of Directors, representing diverse sectors of society, provides crucial guidance and oversight.

The Kasanag Daughters Foundation’s dedication to its mission was recently acknowledged by the DSWD. The foundation was recognized as one of the five Outstanding Social Work Agencies (SWAs) during the first-ever annual search for outstanding SWAs and Auxiliary Social Welfare and Development Agencies (SWADAs) held last December 6th in Quezon City.

Kasanag Daughters Foundation’s success is fueled by the unwavering support of individuals “with open hearts and minds” from Germany, Poland, the Philippines, and the global network of the Priests of the Sacred Heart (SCJ). The 25th-anniversary celebration served as a powerful reminder of the positive impact Kasanag has had on countless lives and the enduring spirit of hope that continues to inspire its work.
