On May 31, 2023, the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Fr. John Wen Liang made his First Profession of vows as a member of the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SCJ). The ceremony occurred in the Novitiate Fr. Dehon in Locuban, Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur. Fr. John professed his vows of poverty, chastity and obedience for one year in the presence of Fr. Lukas Hadi Siswo Sasmito, SCJ, the Regional Superior of the Philippine Region, who presided over the Eucharistic celebration and gave a homily on the meaning and significance of religious profession. He reminded Fr. John that professing vows is a personal act and a communal one, as he becomes a member of a religious family with a charism and a mission. 34th Anniversary of the SCJ Mission in the Philippines
On May 17, 1989, eight SCJ missionaries from different countries and provinces arrived in the Philippines. They were assigned to three parishes in Zamboanga del Sur. The missionaries faced numerous challenges, including difficult travel conditions and a lack of basic amenities. However, they persevered in their mission to spread the Gospel. Continue reading
Celebrating the Feast of St. Isidore in Dumalinao
On May 15, 2023, the SCJ parish in Dumalinao celebrated its 66th Patronal Feast of St. Isidore, the Farmer. The Holy Eucharist started at 9:45 am. The main celebrant was the Bishop of Pagadian, Most Rev. Ronald I. Lunas, D.D. The bishop was joined by some SCJs, from the Zamboanga del Sur area and from Cagayan de Oro. The celebration of the Eucharist was followed by a common meal and a cultural program.
