On February 27, 2024, the formation community of Cagayan de Oro gathered in a joyful celebration to mark a significant milestone in the life of Fr. Luan Do, SCJ, from the SCJ District of Vietnam. Just over a month ago, on January 6, 2024, Fr. Luan Do was ordained to the priesthood in his homeland of Vietnam, a culmination of years of dedication, study, and spiritual formation.
Fr. Luan Do’s journey to priesthood is a testament to his unwavering commitment and the transformative power of faith. His heart, deeply connected to the Philippines, found fertile ground for growth and service when he arrived in 2012. Here, he immersed himself in the rich tapestry of Filipino culture and embarked on his academic pursuits, completing his Philosophy studies and undergoing initial formation.
The turning point came on June 28, 2016, when Fr. Luan Do professed his first vows in the Novitiate Fr. Dehon in Lower Lucoban, Dumalinao, Zamboanga de Sur. This sacred commitment marked the beginning of his formal journey into religious life, a journey that would ultimately lead him to the priesthood.
For the community of Cagayan de Oro, Fr. Luan Do’s presence is a source of joy and inspiration. Here, amidst the lush landscapes and warm hospitality, he took his first steps towards embracing the call to serve God and His people. Now, as he returns to celebrate his Thanksgiving Mass, the community rejoices in witnessing the fruits of his labor and the fulfillment of his calling.
The Thanksgiving Mass is not just a moment of reflection and gratitude for Fr. Luan Do alone, but a collective expression of thanks for all who have supported him along the way. It is a testament to the power of community and the bonds that unite us in faith and fellowship.
As Fr. Luan Do stands before the altar, his heart overflowing with gratitude, he offers prayers of thanksgiving for the journey that has brought him to this sacred moment. With each word spoken and each gesture made, he reaffirms his commitment to serve with humility, compassion, and love.
As the community joins in song and prayer, they are reminded of the profound impact one individual can have when guided by faith and fueled by love. Fr. Luan Do’s journey serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring others to embrace their own calling and to journey with courage and conviction.
In celebrating Fr. Luan Do’s Thanksgiving Mass, the community of Cagayan de Oro not only honors his commitment to priesthood but also reaffirms their own dedication to walk alongside him in faith and communion.
