Remembering Fr. Joseph Butlig on His Second Death Anniversary

On April 1, 2024, we gather once again to commemorate the life and legacy of Fr. Joseph C. Butlig, SCJ, on the occasion of his second death anniversary. It has been two years since we bid farewell to a man whose presence radiated faith, compassion, and unwavering commitment.

Fr. Joseph Butlig was born on November 27, 1979, in Alicia, Bohol, and dedicated his life to serving others through his vocation as a priest with the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart (SCJ). His journey led him to make his first profession of vows on May 13, 2007, followed by his ordination as a priest on November 26, 2013.

Throughout his all-too-brief life, Fr. Joseph touched the hearts of countless individuals with his kindness, generosity, and love. His service extended beyond the walls of the church, as he embraced various roles within the SCJ Philippine Region and served as the project coordinator of the Kasanag Daughters Foundation, Inc.

As we reflect on the impact of Fr. Joseph’s life, we are reminded of his profound dedication to his faith and the communities he served. His warmth and infectious smile left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

On the morning of his second death anniversary, a concelebrated Mass was held at the Forest Lake Cagayan de Oro Memorial Park. Fr. Rechie Gier, SCJ, along with fellow SCJs from the Cagayan de Oro Area, presided over the solemn occasion. Family members, relatives, and friends of Fr. Joseph gathered to honor his memory and offer prayers for the repose of his soul.

Following the Mass, those in attendance shared a common meal, provided by Fr. Joseph’s family. This simple yet poignant gesture served as a testament to the enduring bonds of love and support that Fr. Joseph cultivated throughout his life.

As we mark this second anniversary of Fr. Joseph’s passing, we carry forward his spirit of compassion, faith, and love. Though he may no longer walk among us, his legacy continues to inspire us to live with purpose and to make a difference in the lives of others.

In our hearts, Fr. Joseph’s memory remains vibrant and alive. As we honor him today, we pledge to uphold the values he embodied and to keep his light shining brightly in our communities.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to be a blessing to us all.
