Candles and Saints: An Evening of Devotion and Reflection

On October 31, 2024, the SCJ Formation Community in Cagayan de Oro City concluded October’s devotion to the Holy Rosary with a meaningful celebration, which also served to honor All Saints Day. This event brought together elements of prayer, reflection, and fellowship in a solemn yet festive gathering.

The evening commenced at 6:00 PM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary, held at the community’s basketball court, which had been thoughtfully arranged as an outdoor prayer space. Over fifty candles, arranged to form a symbolic rosary, were lit gradually with each mystery, creating a serene, luminous pathway that marked each stage of the prayer. The statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary served as the central focus, beautifully decorated with white and red flowers, inviting an atmosphere of devotion, unity, and gratitude.

Following the rosary, the community came together for a shared meal, fostering a spirit of companionship. This was followed by a unique series of presentations in which each student represented a saint, offering brief reflections on their chosen saint and explaining why they felt personally connected to that figure. Through this “Holy Twist” on Halloween, students not only embraced the lives of the saints but also shared their personal inspirations, honoring the saints’ virtues and relevance in their own lives.

The evening continued with creative and joyful activities organized by the students. The participation of the TMM Sisters Community, friends, and staff from the formation house added to the warmth and shared joy of the occasion.

This celebration of the end of the Holy Rosary Month and All Saints Day highlighted the SCJ Formation Community’s commitment to prayer, learning, and fellowship. The evening’s events underscored the guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the saints, inspiring all to deepen their faith in a memorable and joyful gathering.
