Sacred Heart Formation House, Cagayan de Oro City, Feast of the Holy Family

In today’s Gospel, we see Joseph once again listening to the voice of God in a dream: “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt.” This command, urgent and unsettling, changes the course of the Holy Family’s life. They become refugees, seeking safety in a foreign land. Yet, through Joseph’s prompt obedience and Mary’s silent trust, the will of God unfolds even amid danger and uncertainty.

The Feast of the Holy Family is not merely a remembrance of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus living under one roof. It is a reminder that holiness in family life is built on faith, obedience, and mutual love — often tested through trials. The Holy Family was not spared from hardship: they faced exile, fear, and poverty. But in all these, they remained centered on God’s plan.

Joseph teaches us that true fatherhood means listening and acting in faith. He does not speak a word in Scripture, yet his silent strength protects the Child and His Mother. Mary shows us the heart of a mother who trusts even when she does not understand. Jesus, though divine, embraces the vulnerability of a child and the obedience of a son. Together, they reflect the beauty of family life grounded in love and guided by divine purpose.

In our times, when families face separation, misunderstanding, and moral confusion, the Holy Family stands as a light. Holiness does not depend on having a perfect life, but on allowing God to dwell at the center of it.

Let us pray that our families, too, may become places where faith is lived, forgiveness is practiced, and love is shared generously. Like the home in Nazareth, may our own homes be simple but full of God’s presence.
