Sacred Heart Formation House, Cagayan de Oro City, 1st Sunday of Lent

The forty days of Lent remind us of Jesus’ forty days in the desert, facing temptation. He teaches us to resist the urge to seek comfort in material things, to reject the desire for power, and to trust in God rather than testing Him. Just as Jesus found strength in Scripture, we, too, must turn to God’s word to overcome our struggles. Lent is a time of fasting, prayer, and repentance, helping us detach from sin and grow in faith. When we choose God over temptation, we choose true life.

When we choose to speak with kindness and truth, we not only uplift those around us but also nurture our own inner life. Our language can either serve as a mirror showing the beauty within or as a mask that hides our true self. Therefore, it is vital to cultivate a habit of thoughtful speech that promotes healing and understanding.
