Sacred Heart Formation House, Aluba, Cagayan de Oro City, Solemnity of Pentecost

Pentecost is more than a celebration of an event from the past. It is the living reminder that the Holy Spirit still renews hearts, gives courage, and breathes life into the Church today. Like a sailboat without wind, many people feel stuck by fear, discouragement, or spiritual dryness. Pentecost reminds us that faith cannot grow by human strength alone — we need the power of the Holy Spirit.

In the Gospel, Jesus comes to the disciples while they are still hiding behind locked doors and says, “Peace be with you.” He does not wait for them to become strong before giving them the Holy Spirit. Instead, He enters their fear and transforms them from within. The same Spirit who changed frightened disciples into courageous apostles can also change our lives today.

The Holy Spirit gives strength to forgive, to persevere, to love generously, and to become instruments of peace in a divided world. Pentecost also reminds us that every person has a gift to offer in the Body of Christ. Some are called to preach, others to serve quietly, comfort the suffering, or bring reconciliation.

This Pentecost invites us to open the “locked doors” of our hearts and allow the Holy Spirit to renew us. A Christian filled with the Spirit becomes a light for others — bringing hope, courage, peace, and love into the world.
