“Many are invited, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:1–14)
Have you ever been so busy doing good things that you forgot to spend time with God?
We can fill our days with responsibilities, activities, studies, work, and service. We can participate in prayer and fulfill our duties, yet sometimes our hearts become tired, distracted, or distant from the Lord.
Sometimes, we do not reject God openly. We simply become too busy to listen to him.
In today’s Gospel, a king prepares a wedding feast for his son. When the invited guests refuse to come, the king sends his servants into the streets to invite everyone they find, “both bad and good.”
God’s invitation is for everyone. He does not wait for us to become perfect before welcoming us. He calls us with our weaknesses, struggles, questions, and hopes.
But the Gospel also speaks about a guest without a wedding garment. This reminds us that accepting God’s invitation must lead to a change of life.
God welcomes us as we are, but he loves us too much to leave us unchanged.
Our prayer must shape our attitudes. Our faith must influence our decisions. Our service must come from love, not from the desire for recognition. We must learn to forgive, accept correction, listen patiently, and serve faithfully even when nobody notices.
The wedding garment is not about appearing holy before others. It is about allowing Christ to transform us from within.
This transformation also takes place in our daily relationships. A truly Christian community is not one in which nobody has weaknesses or difficulties. It is one in which people help one another encounter God’s mercy and grow in love.
As we reflect on this Sunday’s Gospel, let us ask ourselves three questions:
🙏 Am I making excuses to avoid God’s invitation? Have my activities and distractions taken away the time I need for prayer?
❤️ Am I wearing the wedding garment? Is my faith changing the way I speak, forgive, accept correction, and treat others?
🤝 Am I helping others find a place at God’s table? Does my presence bring encouragement, understanding, and hope to those around me?
This week, let us make time for personal prayer, change one attitude that prevents us from following Christ more faithfully, and reach out to someone who needs our understanding or encouragement.
The invitation is for everyone. The feast is ready.
Let us come to the Lord, allow him to transform our lives, and become signs of his welcoming love wherever he sends us.
🙏 Lord, help us hear your invitation, put on the garment of Christ, and make room for others at your table.
