Celebration of the Founder and Thanksgiving Mass in Cagayan de Oro

August 12, 2017 – More than 40 members of the “Apostleship of Prayer” from the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, members of Lay Dehonians and Dehonian Youth, Staff from Kasanag Daughters Foundation (KDF), TMM Sisters, SCJ seminarians and friends of the Congregation, attended the celebration of 92^nd Death Anniversary of Fr. Leo John Dehon and Thanksgiving Mass of Fr. Dennis Macasero, SCJ.

The celebration was held at the Sacred Heart Formation House Chapel in Cagayan de Oro City. The main celebrant was Fr. Dennis Macasero, SCJ, assisted by Dn. Nathaniel Robilla, SCJ and members of the Aluba I Community and Dansolihon Chaplaincy.

After, the post communion prayer there was a video presentation for all those who attended the celebration to give them an idea about the Vision and Mission of the SCJ Philippine Region that lasted for 25 minutes. The celebration ended with simple dinner as an expression of thanksgiving for all those who participated the activity.

Priestly Ordination of Deacon Dennis

On June 29, 2017, on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles, Dn. Dennis Macasero, SCJ, was ordained priest. The ceremony of ordination took place at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Buug, Zamboanga Sibuguey, his parish of origin and was presided by the Bishop of Ipil, Most Reverend Julius S. Tonel, D.D.

Fr. Dennis Macasero is the 18th SCJ Filipino priest and 2nd SCJ ordained by Bishop Tonel. His vocation story goes back to the year 2000 when became a “convent boy” in his parish. Helping for four years in the rectory, he was able not only to finish his high school education, but also observe the life of a priest, which attracted him very much. It was during that time that he met an SCJ priest assigned in the nearby parish in Kumalarang. As a result of that, after graduating from St. Paul School in Buug, he applied to the SCJ Formation Program in Cagayan de Oro City. In 2011 he made his first profession of vows in the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and proceeded to study Theology at the Loyola School of Theology (LST) in Manila. On June 29, 2016, he was ordained deacon and was assigned first in Tanay, Diocese of Antipolo and later in Bagong Silang, Diocese of Novaliches.

The ceremony of ordination was beautifully prepared by the Buug Parish and was attended by almost all SCjs, diocesan priests from the Diocese of Ipil and Pagadian, religious sisters, parishioners and friends.

The ordination of Fr. Dennis was the culmination of the three-day activities, which included ordination to the Diaconate and First Profession of Vows.

First Profession of Vows

On June 28, 2017, five (5) SCJNovices, three (3) Filipino: Rey Rhet E. Maglinte, Ferdinand T. Quintos, Sylvester Martin A. Santos , and two (2) Vietnamese: Long Doan Quang Hoang and Van Nam Nguyen , professed their first vows of Chastity, Poverty and Obedience in the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

The vows were accepted by Fr. Franciszek Pupkowski, SCJ, superior of the Philippine Region. The ceremony was held at the church of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish in Dumalinao and was witnessed by SCJs coming from different communities, families and friends of the newly professed religious.

Ordination to the Diaconate

On June 27, 2017, two (2) members of the Philippine Region on final vows: Bro. Nathaniel D. Robilla, SCJ, and Bro. Rogereve U. Pausanos, SCJ, were ordained deacons.

The two SCJs were ordained by the Bishop of Pagadian Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Cabajar DD, CSsR, at the San Isidro Labrador Parish in Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur.

Dn. Nathaniel comes from the Diocese of Tagum, while Dn. Rogereve from Balongating, a sub-parish of Dumalinao. The new deacons are assigned, respectively, at Immaculate Conception Parish in Aluba, Cagayan de Oro City and San Isidro Labrador Parish in Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur.

Benefactors’ Day in Cagayan de Oro

It is already a tradition that on the Sunday after the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus the formation community of Cagayan de Oro celebrates Benefactors’ Day. It is the way to let the benefactors know more about the congregation and its activities and also an opportunity to thank them for their support and generosity.

This year, the celebration of Benefactors’ Day was held on June 25, 2017. It started with the Holy Eucharist presideded by the Regional Superior Fr. Francis Pupkowski, scj, who is also in charge of the Fundraising Office. At the end of the Mass, the benefactors could watch a short video presentation containing an information about “Who we are and what we are doing…”
