On November 26, 2024, the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SCJ) rejoiced as four new priests and one deacon were ordained at the St. Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. The solemn ceremony presided over by His Excellency, Archbishop Jose A. Cabantan, D.D., marked a significant milestone for the SCJ community and the local Church.
The newly ordained priests—Fr. Giovanni Bautista, Fr. Carl Ryan Opeña, Fr. Rackie Roxas, and Fr. July Zambrano—along with Br. Agustin Indangan, who was ordained as a deacon, have embraced their vocations with enthusiasm and devotion. Each has discerned a call to a life of service, guided by the SCJ’s mission of love and sacrifice.
Hailing from various parts of Mindanao, the newly ordained bring with them unique perspectives and experiences. Fr. Giovanni Bautista and Fr. Carl Ryan Opeña, both from the Diocese of Malaybalay, share a spiritual heritage rooted in St. Jude Thaddeus Parish in Damilag, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Fr. Rackie Roxas, from Jesus Nazareno Parish in Dansolihon, Cagayan de Oro City, and Fr. July Zambrano, from San Isidro Labrador Parish in Medina, Misamis Oriental, represent the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro.
This diversity reflects the widespread call to service within the Catholic Church in the Philippines, highlighting the richness and unity of the faith.
Following the ordination, a joyous common meal was held at the Sacred Heart Formation House in Cagayan de Oro. Friends, family, fellow clergy, and members of the SCJ community gathered to celebrate this significant milestone, offering prayers and words of encouragement to the newly ordained. This gathering symbolized the unity and fellowship that define the SCJ community.
As Fr. Giovanni, Fr. Carl Ryan, Fr. Rackie, and Fr. July embark on their priestly ministries, and Dn. Agustin begins his journey as a deacon, we are confident that they will embody the SCJ’s charism of compassion and devotion to Christ’s Heart. May they continue to grow in their faith and inspire others through their selfless service.
Please join us in congratulating and praying for these newly ordained men. May God bless them abundantly as they dedicate their lives to His service.
