“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

Love is easy to speak about, but much harder to live. Many people say, “I love God,” but Jesus gives us a clear test of love: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Love for Christ is not measured by beautiful words, emotional prayers, or public displays of faith. It is shown in obedience, faithfulness, and daily choices.

Jesus does not ask for a love that is sentimental or comfortable. He asks for a love that listens, follows, and sacrifices. To forgive someone who hurt us, to remain honest when lying would be easier, to stay faithful when life becomes difficult, to serve the poor when it costs us comfort—this is where love becomes real.

But Jesus does not leave us alone in this challenge. He promises the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, who remains with us forever. The Christian life is not a lonely struggle. The Spirit strengthens us when we are weak, guides us when we are confused, and reminds us that we belong to God. Even when we feel abandoned, Jesus assures us: “I will not leave you orphaned.”

How many people today live like spiritual orphans—lost, anxious, and searching for meaning? Many have success, money, and technology, yet still feel empty inside. The reason is simple: the human heart was made for God. Without Him, something is always missing.

Jesus invites us not only to believe in Him, but to remain in Him. Faith is not just knowing about Jesus; it is living in relationship with Him. It is allowing His presence to shape our decisions, our priorities, and our relationships.

This Gospel is both comforting and challenging. It comforts us because we are never abandoned. Christ is with us through His Spirit. But it also challenges us: Is our love for Jesus visible in the way we live?

Do we keep His commandments only when convenient? Do we follow Him only when it costs nothing? Real discipleship begins when faith moves from words to action.

This week, let us ask ourselves honestly: If someone looked at my life, would they recognize that I love Christ?

May the Holy Spirit help us not only to admire Jesus, but to follow Him courageously. Love must become action, and faith must become witness. Only then will the world truly see that Christ lives in us.
