Today’s Gospel reminds us that Christian love is more than simply being nice or avoiding conflict. Sometimes love requires us to speak; sometimes love requires us to listen.
Jesus tells us: “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone.”
Not behind his back.
Not through gossip.
Not to prove that we are right.
Speak directly. Speak privately. Speak with love.
But the Gospel also challenges us to ask: Are we willing to be corrected?
Sometimes God speaks to us through another person. Instead of immediately defending ourselves, we can pause and ask: “Lord, could there be some truth in what I am hearing?”
Christian correction is not about superiority. We do not correct because we are better; we correct because we care.
And when relationships are wounded, Jesus does not tell us to give up easily. He calls us to take the first step toward reconciliation.
A greeting.
A message.
An apology.
A simple: “Can we talk?”
The goal is not to win an argument. The goal is to win our brother or sister. The goal is restoration, healing, and reconciliation.
This week, let us put the Gospel into action:
🙏 Pray before correcting.
🗣️ Speak directly, not behind someone’s back.
👂 Listen before defending yourself.
❤️ Take one step toward reconciliation.
🌱 Do not give up on people—or on yourself.
“Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
May we become people who love enough to speak, are humble enough to listen, and care enough to reconcile.
